Wedding Wear to Reception & Your Honeymoon – The Bride Guide!

Your big day needs to be as bold, beautiful and unique as you.  That’s why it’s important to have the right attire to match your own individual style, be meaningful like your marriage and help you stand out, while staying comfortable.  Whether you like traditional or your own personal flair, here are some fun ideas for fabulous fashions that you can tie into your big day.

Two Wedding Dress Alternatives!

Who says you need a big ball gown?  Not us!  Some brides prefer not wear a huge dress to weight them down.  If you want comfort, style and flair, here are two fun alternative bride looks to let you love your wedding day without breaking your bank!

Your ceremony.

Corsets are back and they are “Haute”, “Hot”, “Haute!”.  Many traditional dresses use them as a top, so don’t let the word scare you.  You can combine them with a flowing blouse, wear them as is and then combine them with a long skirt for a polished, elegant and show stopping look.  If you really want to turn heads, you could go to the “dark side” and try a black Victorian bustle skirt with a traditional white or off white top.

A Little More Food For Thought

A Winter Wedding

winter-wedding-outdoor-07

While we think of spring and summer as the “wedding season” many couples prefer to have a winter wedding instead. There can be many reasons for this, but can include incorporating a key date into the wedding plans, such as having the wedding on or near the anniversary of the engagement. Many venues offer discounts to off-season weddings, so couples can save money by having  a winter wedding. Some people simply enjoy the look and feel of winter. While it is cold outside, the snow – if it snows where you are – is beautiful. People often associate the winter with warm things and warm emotions – snuggling by the fire, hot cocoa and cider, and warm, soft clothing. Whatever your reason for wanting your winter wedding, here are some ideas to make your winter wedding the perfect day.

Winter Wedding Themes

One of the first things brides consider when planning a wedding is the theme. The winter lends itself to some beautiful themes. Here are a few favorites that can help get your imagination going. Remember, when you are planning your theme, to include winter wedding invitations that match your theme. This will help set the mood for guests and give them an idea of what they should wear to a winter wedding.

Winter Wonderland Wedding

Your wedding dress will be white. Why not let everything else be white as well? Have your bridal bouquet and flower arrangements be white roses and other white, wintery flowers. For the reception, have white tablecloths with silver snowflake glitter. Choose glass crystal that is reminiscent of snowflakes. Make sure complimentary linens are white or pale blue. You can also use snowflakes as decorative accents to hang around the reception and dance floor. For your wedding cake, a traditional white cake is perfect. Consider decorating it with snowflakes and winter flowers. Do not forget to serve up warm cider with the cake.

What will you wear?

The traditional white wedding dress is perfect for this type of wedding. You can consider a dress that incorporates fur, though convertible fur is best – that is something you can remove once you are indoors. Dresses that incorporate or suggest snowflake designs are perfect for a winter wonderland wedding.

What will your bridal party wear?

For a winter wonderland wedding, your bridal party should have dresses designed with winter and comfort in mind. Remember that while the weather outside is frightful, the temperature inside will be warm, so do not put them in anything too warm, or choose convertible dresses that include warm coverings for the arms while outside for pictures that can be abandoned once they are inside for the reception. Since colors are traditional for bridesmaids dresses, stick with cool colors that suggest winter. Pale blue is the best.

Christmas Themed Wedding

Christmas is one of the biggest holidays of the year, and you can incorporate its themes into your wedding. Christmas is all about bold colors – green, red, silver, and gold – and these can make spectacular accents for your special day. Christmas weddings also allow you to add a traditional and even rustic flavor to your wedding. Consider plain glass ornaments or glittered ornaments for table and hanging decorations. Candy canes make great napkin decorations. Traditional Christmas plants like poinsettias, holly, and of course, pine wreathes make wonderful decorations as well. Do not forget to have mistletoe hanging over the wedding altar for the kiss. You can also have mistletoe hanging over the dance floor as well. Your cake can be a traditional white cake or you can accent it with Christmas colors. Offer your guests hot chocolate, warm cider, and eggnog for drinks.

The New Years Wedding

Why not ring in the New Year with your special day. The classic, chic charm of a New Year’s party lends itself perfectly to a wedding. Your colors will focus on black, white, and silver, so matching colors will be simple. You will also have many very nice, classy decorations to choose from, allowing you to decorate your wedding and reception at a reasonable price. You will still have your traditional white wedding cake and many of your table decorations will be white – such as tablecloths and napkins – though your accent will be black and silver. The traditional favors for New Years, such as poppers and sparklers, area a great idea for wedding favors and you can use white poinsettias and other white winter flowers for decorations, with silver and black accents. Do not forget to serve up the champagne for the wedding.

Wedding Flowers – Take Your Time?

Flowers have an important role to play at a wedding, both in the actual ceremony and the reception. They are usually colour coordinated with the whole wedding theme, and can use up quite a substantial part of the budget. They bring not only colour, but also offer elegance, style and fragrance to the environment they are in. In fact, for many brides, choosing an imaginative and talented wedding florist is just as important as choosing the dressmaker, cake, or photographer.

Not only do they decorate the church or wedding venue itself, they are used on the top table, as table centrepieces, not to forget the bride’s bouquet and that of the bridemaids. It is also tradition for the mother of each the bride and the groom to be given a bunch of flowers at the end of the wedding breakfast. So, obviously the bride wants the flowers to be right.

397564914_6698e52b9c_oWedding flowers are also hugely symbolic. The bride can incorporate her favourites, her mother’s favourites, or types of flowers that evoke certain memories. A lot of care should be taken when choosing your flowers.

The people who tend to wear a flower corsage on the day itself are the parents of both the bride and groom, grandparents, and any other immediate family members who are not in the  wedding party. Anyone who is undertaking the role as an usher, or doing an important reading or speech, will also usually wear a flower.
Pretty Flowers
There is no etiquette rule as such for who should wear flowers in buttonholes, often guests decide to get their own corsage for attending a wedding, or some brides arrange to have one made for every guest, it really just depends.

If you want a long lasting keepsake then you may opt for a high quality silk floral bouquet. This will then last a lifetime and more, allowing you to even pass this down to your children and grandchildren. Real fresh flowers can be pressed and preserved to an extent, but silk alternatives are a good idea if you really want your bridal bouquet to become an heirloom.

The Pantone Wedding

One of the challenges that all brides face when planning a wedding is color coordination. Every designer, every provider, has a different idea of what the ideal hue of blue, green, red, and pink are. While some colors are forgiving if tone is off, others can create a glaring contrast that will throw off even the most magical of days.

When the Dessy Group partnered with Pantone LLC, they offered brides the ability to easily overcome this challenge. They offer a collection of wedding planning tools, the highlight of which is the Chiplette Color Guide. This foldout color palette gives brides the ability to accurate share colors with their bridesmaids and vendors, ensuring a perfect color match.

The After Six collection is also affordable, offering brides on a wide range of budgets the ability to enjoy elegance. They dresses are 100% returnable, in the event that something is wrong with sizing or some other unforeseen circumstance occurs. If you are unsure about a material, you can even order a free swatch to help you match materials. Brides who prefer to handle their dresses in person and enjoy the excitement of trying on wedding gowns can also find a Dessy retailer in their area.

The selection of bridesmaids dresses is equally elegant and a perfect complement to the bride. You have elegant choices from Alfred Sung, Lela Rose, After Six, and others.
