Wedding Wear to Reception & Your Honeymoon – The Bride Guide!

Your big day needs to be as bold, beautiful and unique as you.  That’s why it’s important to have the right attire to match your own individual style, be meaningful like your marriage and help you stand out, while staying comfortable.  Whether you like traditional or your own personal flair, here are some fun ideas for fabulous fashions that you can tie into your big day.

Two Wedding Dress Alternatives!

Who says you need a big ball gown?  Not us!  Some brides prefer not wear a huge dress to weight them down.  If you want comfort, style and flair, here are two fun alternative bride looks to let you love your wedding day without breaking your bank!

Your ceremony.

Corsets are back and they are “Haute”, “Hot”, “Haute!”.  Many traditional dresses use them as a top, so don’t let the word scare you.  You can combine them with a flowing blouse, wear them as is and then combine them with a long skirt for a polished, elegant and show stopping look.  If you really want to turn heads, you could go to the “dark side” and try a black Victorian bustle skirt with a traditional white or off white top.

A Little More Food For Thought

Wedding Flowers – Take Your Time?

Flowers have an important role to play at a wedding, both in the actual ceremony and the reception. They are usually colour coordinated with the whole wedding theme, and can use up quite a substantial part of the budget. They bring not only colour, but also offer elegance, style and fragrance to the environment they are in. In fact, for many brides, choosing an imaginative and talented wedding florist is just as important as choosing the dressmaker, cake, or photographer.

Not only do they decorate the church or wedding venue itself, they are used on the top table, as table centrepieces, not to forget the bride’s bouquet and that of the bridemaids. It is also tradition for the mother of each the bride and the groom to be given a bunch of flowers at the end of the wedding breakfast. So, obviously the bride wants the flowers to be right.

397564914_6698e52b9c_oWedding flowers are also hugely symbolic. The bride can incorporate her favourites, her mother’s favourites, or types of flowers that evoke certain memories. A lot of care should be taken when choosing your flowers.

The people who tend to wear a flower corsage on the day itself are the parents of both the bride and groom, grandparents, and any other immediate family members who are not in the  wedding party. Anyone who is undertaking the role as an usher, or doing an important reading or speech, will also usually wear a flower.
Pretty Flowers
There is no etiquette rule as such for who should wear flowers in buttonholes, often guests decide to get their own corsage for attending a wedding, or some brides arrange to have one made for every guest, it really just depends.

If you want a long lasting keepsake then you may opt for a high quality silk floral bouquet. This will then last a lifetime and more, allowing you to even pass this down to your children and grandchildren. Real fresh flowers can be pressed and preserved to an extent, but silk alternatives are a good idea if you really want your bridal bouquet to become an heirloom.

Your Role As a Bridesmaid

Your friend is getting married, and she has asked you to be a bridesmaid. She is giving you a special honor and a touching compliment. The bridesmaids are usually those closest to the bride, her close family members and her best friends. You want to show your support and appreciation to her by being there when she needs you and helping make her day special and stress free.

What is Your Role?

The role of the bridesmaid can vary slightly depending on the bride’s needs, and how traditional the ceremony is going to be. The Head Maid or Matron of Honor has most of the roles in assisting with wedding planning and during the wedding day festivities. As a bridesmaid, however, you do have your role as well. You will be standing in the wedding party with your friend or family member. You will also have things to do leading up to the big day.

First, you will help the bride shop for her wedding dress and the bridesmaid’s dresses. It is very important that you offer your input about color and style preferences, especially if a style or color does not work for you or indeed your Bride. Some people look pale wearing certain shades of pink, red, or orange. You want to look beautiful on the big day because your beauty will help enhance and add to the bride’s beauty. Be honest with the bride about the dresses that she tries on as well. She may have her sights on something elegant, but if it does not look perfect on her, she will not be happy on her big day.

You will also assist with different aspects of planning the wedding. When asked, offer your input on decorations, colors, music, and favors. If you happen to know that the kids are enjoying certain types of party favors, let the bride know. Flower girl gifts and gifts for the pageboys are important, and meaningful gifts they will enjoy will give them lasting memories of the day.

Be ready to help the Maid of Honor plan the bridal shower and Hen Party. You may be asked to chip in for expenses for either event. If you are able to assist, be sure to save money aside for those events as well as your own gift for the bride. If you cannot assist financially, ask the Maid of Honor what else you can do to chip in instead. She will appreciate it and you will feel like an active part of the wedding planning.

At the wedding reception, be social. Speak to as many guests as you can, help introduce people, and guide guests to the guest book and be ready to help with the special moments, such as the cake cutting. Do not forget you will have an important role before the ceremony as well. You will help get the bride ready for her day and keep her calm. It is also a good idea to assist the Maid of Honor in making sure the bride remembers to eat, as many forget that in the excitement of the day.

The bride has given you a big honor and shown you how special you are by including you as an active participant in one of the most important days of her life. Enjoy your role as bridesmaid. Be there for your friend and most importantly, enjoy the excitement and the festivities.

A Vintage Themed Wedding

While traditional weddings have their appeal, adding a theme can make your wedding something more than just your special day. It will stand out as the event of the year for your family and friends, creating memories not only for you and for your groom, but everyone invited.

While some people look to weddings themed after favorite books and movies, vintage weddings offer you the ability to turn your wedding into something special while still maintaining the tradition and formality that makes a wedding beautiful.

Planning a Vintage Wedding

A vintage wedding adds a touch of history to your special day. Whether you simply enjoy the inspiration of older times, or you want to set your wedding theme around a memory or a special “something old,” this style of wedding is unique and rich in both tradition and imagination.

Vintage Decorations

The decorations that you choose for your wedding can help set the mood and atmosphere for your special day. By shopping in second-hand and vintage stores, you can find favors, table toppers, and even serving dishes that have the time-period flare you want for your wedding. The style of wedding cake and topper will also help set the mood for your reception.

For vintage wedding ideas, consider Tabitha Emma and Erika Toth’s weddings. Tabitha Emma’s Vintage Romance wedding highlights how decorations and location help to build the vintage theme. Erika Toth wanted a Southern Vintage Wedding. In keeping with Southern tradition and hospitality, they held the wedding at the home where they met and fell in love. They opted for table decorations that were folk-inspired, casual, and warm. They also included vintage decorations such as vintage oil lamps, antique phonographs for music, and even a fun bride and groom photo stand for guests to take pictures.

Vintage Dress

What you and your wedding party wear for your special occasion will also help set the mood for your vintage wedding. Frock and Frill offers a selection of wedding dresses that will have you looking beautiful and standing out. The Penelope White Embellished Maxi Dress offers vintage style and traditional elegance. The Zelda Flapper Dress offers elegance with a short and flirty design that will have you ready to dance through your reception. You can choose from hundreds of elegant designs for you and your bridesmaids. Combine these dresses with vintage wedding hairstyles and vintage wedding rings, and you have the perfect wedding ensemble.
